HOUSE IN MESSINES
This visionary house, in São Bartolomeu de Messines in Portugal, sits in a remote village in the Algarve, surrounded by valleys, hills and reservoirs. Due to administrative restrictions in this scenic location, the architecture firm Vítor Vilhena Architects had to build it over an existing building in ruins. The superimposed construction features large picture windows that bring in natural light and open the space to the exterior, allowing expansive views of the surrounding landscape.
In the living area, a suspended Domofocus fireplace adds its quiet charm to the minimalist design. To respect the environment and keep the landscape as untouched as possible, the architects created a suspended swimming pool in an extension of the roof. The roof itself serves as a second living space, from which the inhabitants can benefit from a 360° view of nature.
